SmushIt is a webtool that optomizes image size by shrinking the image. This is a wonderful tool that uses optimization techniques specific to image format to remove unnecessary bytes from image files. It is a “lossless” tool, which means it optimizes the images without changing their look or visual quality.

All that you need is to upload the image you want to reduce the size. Smush.it then runs on a web page with the reports showing how many bytes would be saved by optimizing the page’s images and  provides a downloadable zip file with the minimized image files.

How does Smush.it Works?

Smushit works based on various algorithms.ImageMagick-to identify the image type, pngcrush- to strip unnecessary chunks from PNGs, gifsicle-to optimize GIF animations. It can process JPG, GIF, and PNG images that are up to 1MB in size. Smushit converts GIF files to PNG files when the resulting PNG files are smaller. And you know PNG files are very much optimized when compared to the GIF images.

Note:
Do not link to the smushed images on Smushit.com since they will only be available there temporarily. Instead, download the zip file containing the smushed images for your web page and replace your image files with those files.
